Mockboared III

Today was our third mockboard. I couldn't find a patient so I had the guy witht the tenacious calculus come in and luckily he qualified. I only missed one spot and passed my board exam with like a 94% I was so excited. It made me feel more confident for clinical boards.

Tenacious Stuff

So I saw the same patient that I had last week today. His perio abcess looks alot better and his tissue is responding well. I had sharpened all my instruments last Wed but I was still having the hardest time getting his calculus off. I used everything: ultrasonic, graceys, perio files, universal currets, etc... and I still missed like four areas. It will just not come off. I can't belive how concrete that stuff is.

1 Quad Class IV

So today I had a patient that I couln not take x-rays on because he had had them in a dental office recently but had never gone back for perio therapy. He had a perio abcess on #31 with deep pockets surrounding the entire tooth. Professor Alexander gave me one quad of a class IV which made me very excited. Sadly all I got done today was 1 quad and I missed a few spots. His calculus was so tenacious and would not come off. He said it had been like 10 yrs since he had a cleaning. Prof. Alexander suggested sharpening my instruments, so I am going to come in tomorrow and sharpen. I placed some arestin in the abcess pocket. I'm interested to see his tissue response in the future.

Mockboard II

Today we had our second mockboard. It was insane. I was so stressed I screwed up and numbed the wrong side of my patients mandible because I mixed up my submissions in my head. So Dr. Hansen came over to see if that area even quilified because she had originally accapted my first submission and so she hadn't checked my second submission. Luckily it qualified but I lost points due to having to take my second submission. Also during treatment my patients crown fell off. I didn't know what to do. I asked one of the professors and they told me to proceed with treatment and Dr. Naylor would cement it back on when I was done. Dr. Naylor said that if it came off it needed to come off because they shouldn't come off easily. Anyway I failed my mockboard by 4 pts. If I hadn't numbed the wrong quad I would have passed. What a rough day! I'm glad it's over. Professor Alexander told me that if I can make it trough today real boards will be a breeze.

Trauma Again

I got docked for tissue trauma again today. I thought I was doing better but apparently I'm not. This is very frustrating. Every time I get docked for Tissue trauma the instructor gives me a reason of what they think I did but thier answers are never consistent. SOme think I'm applying too much pressure, some say it might be my instrument selection, some say that I am probably not adapting to the tooth enough. This is so frustrating to me. I wish I could just have one of them watch me the whole time to help me figure it out. How am I supposed to correct the problem if I'm not positive what is causing it.

Getting Better

Everything went alot smoother this week. I felt like I was back in my groove. One of my patients didn't show up on time so I called someone else and got them in but other than that it went great. The good news it the person that I used instead of my original patient was a class III.

Rough Day

Today was our first day of clinic this spring semester. I felt like I was disorganized and everything was taking me so much time. I was so frustrated. I can't believe how mush being off for Christmas break thew me out of my groove. On an up note however I found my patient for the first mockboard. That's always a plus! I hope I get back in the swing of things fast. Also today we had to start entering patients into the tal eval system. I is a website that is supposed to make it easier for the instructors to grade us for clinic. I will be glad when I am finally graduated in four months.
